My Best Friend

'My Best Friend'

Always there when I need him...
Anytime, day or night
Yes, always there for me
Even when I look a terrible sight

My best friend won't leave me
like many before have done
He stays close and comforts me
and makes sure I do not run

My best friend understands me
understands my pain, my needs
He tries to salve my anguish
no matter just where it leads

It's a good job I have a best friend
as all the others have disappeared
Don't know why, they just slipped away
if only they had persevered

I would be a very lonely soul
without my very best friend
To cheer me through the night
always someone on whom I can depend

But, as the night draws to an end
it's time to say goodnight to my friend
Yes, my very best friend
My glass is empty, it is the end
but he'll be there tomorrow
to continue being my very best friend.

Fabulous praise and recognition of your best friend, someone who should never be taken for granted, someone who is not a seasonal friend but one of a lifetime! ?

Thanks for the "cheers" Harry and comments from MC. I will probably revisit the end of this scribble as I don't really think it makes the point I was striving to achieve (i.e. your "best friend" is actually your worst enemy - I know from painful experience).

So my thinking hat is back on...

I like the theme and enjoyed the pay-off.
Seek your friendship where you may,
In need of comfort through the day;
And if you're lucky you just might
Find it still comforts through the night!
