Choices

Do not regret the choices you have made

In musing on the pages of your past;

Rejoice before your memories can fade.

It’s pointless thinking chances thus portrayed

Could ever pan out as your hopes forecast;

Do not regret the choices you have made.

The grass is always greener, so it’s said;

But wishful dreams can wilt and wither fast.

Rejoice before your memories can fade.

The jobs whose opportunities you weighed

Still had pitfalls for which you rightly passed;

Do not regret the choices you have made.

The girls who briefly in your life forayed

Built character but were not meant to last;

Rejoice before your memories can fade.

Don’t let deceitful doubts make you dismayed;

Be thankful for the life you have amassed.

Do not regret the choices you have made,

Rejoice before your memories can fade.

Good to see a form poem so elegantly constructed. The villanelle is not a favourite form of mine but I envy the skill with which you've graced this.

Reassuring and philosophical in the nicest way, Trevor. The form has the hypnotic appeal of the Desiderata, and draws us in.

Satisfying . Ray
