I love the brevity of this, but can't quite shrug off the feeling it *may* be just a touch derivative. Heaney, perhaps? Or was it Ted Hughes? Someone will know, I'm sure.

Thank you Steve, 'everyone' refers to Scrooge in derogatory terms - the man became THE most generous and warm person in town!
