Cherry Jam

Ah – cherry jam

rich thick deluxe black cherry jam

crammed with perfect globes of purple fruit.

Who needs toast!

Skewer them with toothpicks

and pop them into your mouth

like cocktail candy.

Or mound a sticky pyramid

on a crunchy corner

and cram the whole pile in

all at once

and chew and suck and dribble

sweet dark juice

down your chin.

OMG – a whole day's sugar in one go?

But who cares? Who cares!

Able stable fable LABEL … I can't look.

Well – OK – yes, I can. I'm not stupid.

I'll take my coffee BLACK. Yes, I will... but... YUK!

And spoil the afterglow of soul-seducing

Tiptree's Black Cherry Jam.

NOT LIKELY!!!

Jam has seeds which
Americans remove
Jam has skin which
Americans remove-
All hail the jam makers
Hold high the very pots
Of sugared fruit with
Seeds and skin.

Needless to say Cynthia I love the the jammy hiss and pop of your lid like verse. Spreadinium gorgeousnussness.

Poems in praise of food are always welcome - especially
mouth-watering examples written with obvious delight.
Having said that...
Personally, I'd spend my money
On a pot of Rowse's honey!
:=))

tiptree. as fine a choice in jam as you can get. i love mrs darlington but thats local to cheshire and north wales i think. she certainly lives round here anyway. sensual and provocative. makes jam sexy. a great poem, especially the meta pay off which is funny and pointed.

A real goody in a luxurious way, Cynthia. I'm thinking of Nigella too. I think we're all sold on this - no point in trying to resist! Ray

Witty and with some mouth-watering imagery. I shall look out for Tiptree's Black Cherry Jam on the supermarket shelf in future - now look what you've gone and done!

What is the point of living if you can't be just plain silly sometimes. Rhetorical question; no answers required. I've had such fun with this - an amazing amount of effort. It's kind of topical this week with the 'intense' media coverage of obesity and the contradictory labelling of packaged goods etc.
