We are the Wigan Diggers
In Winstanley's ideals we believe
From the North of England to St Georges Hill
Heads held high, hearts on our sleeves
This Earth was made a common treasury
For everyone to share
Not just the money making fat cats
Who don't appreciate it or care
Like the Levellers and Diggers before us
We must protect and defend the land
Against the modern day land owners
We have to make a stand
So beware the smiling assassins
They've come to destroy our land
They're conspiring with the Government
To get the upper hand
They don't care about the landscape
Our animals, fish or birds
They're selling us down the river
With their patronising words
No regard for earthquakes or pollution
They think fracking is the only solution
Well they can frack right off
We want a natural resource revolution!
We are the Diggers movement
Stand up proud and fight
in the spirit of 1649
Come ye Diggers of the world unite!

Hiya Jeff. Not been on here in ages. Glad I read this, though. It's a cracking write, Jeff. It feels very much of a tradition without being wistful or sentimental. Reads well off the page/screen. It looks lyrical - is it a song? Good structure and play with words. Colour me impressed. Hope you're well, mate.
