WHAT DON'T I KNOW ABOUT CRICKET?

entry picture

I knew, for instance, that just because England won the First Test that it didn’t make Australia a bad side.

I knew, for instance, that there were four more Tests to play and Australia was more than capable of avenging that defeat – in spades.

I also knew, for instance, that a misplaced sense of partisanship for England would affect the betting on pre-Test favourites, Australia.  It did; they went out in the betting from 8/11 to win the Series to 7/4.  (For those unfamiliar with gaming this means that for every £4 staked you would win £7).

Backing every instinct in my bones I wagered a tenner on Australia to win the Series, which would win me £17.50 plus my £10 stake money.

Things went well.

Australia won the Second Test by millions and I was on course for £27.50.

What don’t I know about cricket?

I recollect that, MC. I think they'd be up before the beak these days.
Classic commentary, Tommy. Was that the "giggles" occasion or was that someone "getting his leg over"? Either way, the stuff of legend.

Having enjoyed a punt or three on horses in the past, this
gave me some "know what you mean" chuckles.
I recall the report that in a certain famous Ashes encounter
Marsh and Lillee (and perhaps others) took astronomical
odds against an England victory - and won when they lost!
A nice little "urner"?

I see, Tommy, that, like me, you have a deep understanding of the game!

...apparently John you fail to factor in the turning of the ball that behaves only at Trent Bridge and despite being professional the Australian's were unable to hit a ball properly. And this only happened at Trent Bridge.
