CURTAIN CALL

entry picture

How do you say goodbye

to everyone you love,

your family and friends

who you hold high above.

How do you say goodbye

to the one in your heart;

your soul mate, from who

none could tear you apart.

Your night and your day

and in every sweet way,

no words could express

what you're needing to say.

How do you say goodbye

to the child in your hand

who you've loved and nurtured

and played with in the sand.

Just what do you say to

those questioning eyes,

for they'll never understand

all your tearful goodbyes.

How could you sigh

and just simply let go

of all that you love

and all that you know.

Heartbreak and fear

as you bid them goodbye,

their tear stained faces

framing sorrowful eyes.

How on earth do we cope

with that harshest reality,

that everything must end

with such certain finality.

How do you say goodbye

to everything you know,

and how will you feel

at the end of the show?

Treasured words

and rapturous applause

but the curtain closes

without an encore.

Grief and sorrow,

frustration and rage,

the final curtain call

on a desolate stage.
