ABUSERS

Why do we think so little of our children , they are abused every minute of every day . Why do we bury our heads in the sand , when our children are abused . Yes Betrayed  . Why is it the norm to think if in care , they are less needy of the love that others can share . And who is it decides, ,that people have the right  . To betray Chilrens rights to be Children .

This is an emotive topic that has achieved
prominence in recent years. I wonder how much
damage is done by over-protective adults instilling feelings of guilt and fear where
they might have otherwise been passed by as
being of no importance by the child in its
many faceted experience of "growing up". I
grew up in the 1940s/50s, with a background
of boarding school (my mother was matron); village school (rural country life); then
grammar school. Talk and rumours about
behaviour that was experienced was widely
disseminated among the kids of those days,
with quick and knowing appreciation of what
was happening or likely to happen from any
given character (local and usually well known)
or circumstances. We knew about never taking sweets from strangers and were street wise yet
allowed to find our own way, adjusting our
experiences without the shrill guilt-ridden
over-protective adult stuff so prevalent these days. Is it not possible that these reactions
are more damaging long term than the suspected
things that kids are told happened to them
and for which they are now in the merciless
spotlight of other people "knowing"?
We must be careful to keep a balance - with the
child's peace of mind always paramount.
