Art Attack

entry picture

Art Attack.

Kalashnikovs spit deadly hate
Upon the streets of grey Paris.
An art attack, the deadly fate.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

A sketch of these disturbing times,
twelve martyrs die for liberty.
The clanging of Notre Dames chimes.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

Bullets of hate will not erase
the sable brush strokes of the free,
dripping red on these bloody days.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

A pencil makes a mark for life,
lasts long beyond this killing spree,
draws deeper than a Judas knife.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

You cannot kill our right to speak,
nor stifle creativity,
no longer silent, sad or weak.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

The world stands with you, side by side,
for freedom and the fleur-de-lis,
a painted tri-colour of pride.
Je prie pour eux - Je suis Charlie.

Really good, really really good. I think rhyme and metre add to its significance, like a marching song to arms - absolutely appropriate.

I can appreciate how difficult it is to write about something so grave in a structure of rhythm and rhyme. But this works really well, Ian. Perhaps it's the repetition which does it, both of the 2nd and 4th line "ee" and the whole of the final line. Powerful mix of comment and slogan. Excellent.

Ian - top stuff on a sombre subject.
The style and choice of words...
ils sont parfait!
