Foyle Young Poets award notches up new record

entry picture

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2014 has hit a new record to become the largest poetry competition in the world, say its organisers.  Last year's competition attracted entries from 7,478 young people from 75 countries. This year 7,604 young poets aged 11-17 have entered from 78 countries in the contest run by the Poetry Society.

This year’s top 100 (15 winners and 85 commended poets) will be announced in London on National Poetry Day, 2 October. The top 15 Foyle Young Poets of the Year will attend a residential writing week at an Arvon centre, and all 100 winning poets will receive book prizes and become youth members of the Poetry Society. The award is supported by the Foyle Foundation.

Life seems full of events for the "young".
I'd be impressed to see a similar award for "Old poets"!!
