THE GALMPTON ROBIN - New Music Setting

The robin sang his song to me

When I walked out by Galmpton Quay.

Alone he sang at twilight's gleam

Beside the darkening Devon stream.

I am Life,  his sweet song said,

An angel's voice above my head.

Exulting in his melody,

The robin sang his song for me.

The tiny songbird touched my heart

That day beside the dreaming Dart.

My spirit soared as I passed by

And joined the robin in the sky.

The robin redbreast will I seek

That sings his song by Galmpton Creek,

And sang his song of joy to me

When I walked out by Galmpton Quay.

Harry - I value your constructive comment about
the last stanza. I think it was a personal
connection with the area around the River Dart
that resulted in it being written. I certainly
appreciate the view you impart about it and may
well obtain a future recording MINUS the last
four lines. Less is more perhaps?
JC is his usual inimitable self. I would probably
be disappointed if it were otherwise. I put his
comment down to a painful attack of "thrush"!!

The last stanza is superfluous but the rest of it is (genuinely) charming. The music is good in
itself, but I think it needs something chirpier.

Pay no notice to the cynics (and John is always like that of a mornin`)

I get a song thrush with its repetitive call in a morning as I walk out to the car:
"Start it up, start it up, start it up...
Pick reverse, pick reverse, pick reverse...
Watch the kerb, watch the kerb, watch the kerb..."
I bellock back at it, "Shut your face, shut your face, shut your face..."
