Competition. Touch and go

Many of us have enjoyed the informal competitions which have run on WOL from time to time. The last one (Izz's 52 Hertz) was won by Cate, who has given the green light for another, so here goes.

  1. The theme is 'Touch and go'. Given the time of year, if someone wants to vary that along the lines of 'Light blue touchpaper and retire', feel free. The poem, or poems, have to have something, however tenuous, to do with that sort of idea.

  2. It should be blogged by Friday 8th November. It would help if it was tagged “Touch and go”

  3. I'll post a reminder somewhere around bonfire night. On Saturday 9th Nov, I'll blog a list of all the poems written on the theme in the month and invite votes.

  4. An Alternative Voting System. Two votes per WOL member numbered 1 and 2, for your first and second choice. Don't vote for yourself. Votes to be emailed by end of play Thurs 14th Nov to me at davebradley80@hotmail.co.uk or via WOL message.

  5. In case of a tie for first or second place on first choices, second choices wll be taken into account. I won't enter or vote but will use a casting vote if even AV delivers a tie. There will only be one winner and only one second placed poem.

  6. The winner can nominate a charity to receive a £10 donation. Second placed poet can nominate a charity to receive a £5 donation. Unfortunately, I can't match Izz's creativity with inflatable whales and whale paperweights for prizes.

If there is a good response the winner may like to run a follow-up competition, though should feel under no pressure to come up with prizes.

Me smutty, Izzy? How very dare you?
Yes, Dave, I got my inflatable in the post. I must say it was a little disappointing; I was expecting something I could use when Our Gert wasn't around.
And thankyou, Izzy, for the kind words about Marsden. I think it was the company that inspired me.

Touch and Go - I imagine John Coopey could make something very smutty out of this theme :)

As an aside, I saw John perform at the Marsden jazz festival today and he was simply magic. Not many people can move from comedy to tragedy and take the audience with them - but he did - and a very moving performance it was.

Cate Greenlees came first, Rachel Bond second and myself joint 3rd with John Coopey. I believe John got his in the post. The rest of us got ours in a typically rumbustious night at the Tudor. There's a photo somewhere.

Who won the inflatable whale? (I wonder what they did with it!)
