A Toast To Craig And Hannah

entry picture

(Invited to write a poem for a friend's wedding)

I wrote this poem that I’ll read out

(I think you’ll guess what it’s about)

I’m hoping that I needn’t shout

Above your raucous clamour;

Of course we’ve gathered to convey

Our thanks to Angela and Ray

Above all else, though, we all say

“Good Luck” to Craig and Hannah.

I’m hoping Craig, that you’ll forgive me

If I speak appreciatively

Of your wife, because quite simply

I’ve known her for a while;

The story starts with you a tot

And scarcely off your piddle-pot;

You’ve moved on since, though, quite a lot

To walking down the aisle.

Those times with Sarah, Sam and Gemma

And the Hills – that’s Matt and Emma;

We’ve photos in your shell-suit when a

Little caravanner;

Wearing masks for Hallowe’en

(Not quite the scariest thing I’ve seen!)

Then bike around the campsite green –

The fastest back was Hannah.

And long before you found romance

Our families caravanned in France

But even then you loved to dance -

Your talent plain to see;

Your dancing skills in class you’d hone

But in your heart you’ve always known

You’d start a Dance School of your own –

We’ve one in Haddlesey!

You grew as fast as eyes could blink

An 18th Barbie do, I think,

As ever you’d be all in pink

Just like Princess Diana;

But now you’ve  met your shining knight

Who’ll take you in his arms tonight

Because today’s a day for white,

Confetti and for glamour.

Today your mum just could not hide

The tears of love, the tears of pride;

Today you made the perfect bride

(No need for Wedding Planner)

Odd moments caught your mum off-guard

As in your wedding dress you starred

(And not the usual leotard

Of Dance Class Queen, Miss Hannah!)

It’s getting time to end my speech

So charge your glasses I beseech you

Don’t need me, I’m sure to teach you

In the usual manner;

May God bless now the two of you

With troubles that are small and few

And house and home with children too!

Good luck to Craig and Hannah

Thanks Harry for your thoughts on "A Toast to Craig and Hannah".
It's a bit different from a set of pans (and a lot cheaper!)

Now that`s what I call a poet doing his job

AND AN EXCELLENT JOB TOO!

(not many couples get that kind of a send off!)

Well done John, You done them proud.
