Then the muse of good mood arrived ...

I wasn't in the mood for poetry last night - a bad day at work had made me all grumpy.

But a after large red wine with a pal in my local pub, Hell's Waiting Room, the muse of good spirits came and perched on my shoulder.

So, as it happened, I DID very much enjoy a most life-affirming BARDS poetry session in New Brighton last night.

Great to see some old friends there, and some new faces! A packed room too. Who says live poetry is a MINORITY art form?

Thanks to Dave Costello for MC-ing the Bards. Although my mood picked up, I was still too tired to do my normal routine up front, introducing everyone and giving instant analysis of the poems.

Today, however, started badly. Trying to cure a hangover while listening to ...'The Life Scientfic' on BBC Radio 4. Week by week this programme builds its only strong thesis – that scientists are indeed NERDS!

TONIGHT, I'm really looking forward to it. .Watching Sky Sports 1 in the pub with my non-poetry-scene mates.

Come ON, LATICS! Let's see you stuff the Arsenal then Villa on Sunday.
