52 Hertz

entry picture

Hi Folks.  Does anyone fancy having a go at a new WOL competition?

I'm posting a link to a newspaper article that explains the theme.  Basically, think loneliness, isolation,  alienation.   I'm sure some of us may already have drawers bursting at the seams with poems written on the subject, but if not, you can always put pen to paper or finger to key...

In case you find the whole subject a bit depressing, I'm enclosing a related song that always makes my kids laugh :)

The closing date for the comp is 30th June and entries need to be tagged with '52 Hertz'.  I'll post a list thereafter for people to vote from.  There won't be a prize - just the fun of knowing your poem was liked.

Hi Katy - it would be brilliant if you could go into the 52 Hertz comp - I'm getting all excited about it now cos it seems to be finally heating up!

All you have to do is blog a poem and tag it with 52 Hertz. You are best choosing the poem that best fits the theme - alienation, loneliness, last of one's kind, singleness... anything that ties into that, even if it's tenuous.

I'm looking forward to reading it - closing date is 30th June. x

Hiya Stephan/Paticia. I haven't posted a list of competition entries yet - I was going to leave it till end of June cos it seemed quite slow to kick off and I know that a few people said they were writing something.

I have definitely logged Pursuit on the radar though. I'm hoping that everyone tags them, otherwise I'm likely to forget what we've had.

NO worries Alex - you can't force poetry, it has to be inside you wanting to come out. I'm glad to hear that this particular theme isn't :) x

Oh dear - you sound that bad do you? Well, at least I can vouch for your voice being pleasantly low Ian, even if it is tuneless!

David, Ian - everyone - I'm really looking forward to hearing your poems.

In fact I've changed my mind about offering a prize. I just received something from Nick (who organised the last one) in the post and it was a lovely surprise - made a change from bills and charity bags at any rate. So, there will be something little for first prize - so long as you trust me with your address :)

I will enter something official for this shortly Isobel - but here's a haiku for a bit of fun:

Fifty Two Hurts

I sang you that song
every week for a year
and still I’m alone…..

those who have heard my sound samples will understand :-)

Thanks Alex/Francine - the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's see whether it takes off as a theme. I hope it does as I'd like to see what people make of it. There's sometimes no accounting for what people want to write about though. x

(Clarence Frog Man Henry - Aint Got No Home)

This the youtube link. We found it on a 50's compilation CD. It's great isn't it? I can imagine it as backing track to a a Quentin Tarantino film where everyone gets butchered :)

I can also imagine you writing to this theme John - you're probably one of the few who'd be able to write something funny :)

I'm glad to hear you like the theme Rachel/ Alex. I've already written something little. It's a piece of thought rather than a poem and I won't post it for a while or enter it into the comp - I just couldn't resist doing something.
