Our Guest Poet

DGPS Poet - Mike Richardson

Born north of the boarder Mike travelled extensively as a serviceman's kid, until finally settling in Pembrokeshire.  Now a city dweller, as Mike terms himself; he still hankers after the country life which is a major inspiration for his poetry.

In poems such as 'Grey' and 'Grace' one can hear nature sing most joyously.  In the poem 'Three peak trilogy', nature is summoned through the eyes of a driver supporting a mountanous expedition.  I thought I had no significant connection to nature, yet here I somehow feel an old connection; perhaps from childhood long forgotton?  That poetry can evoke the country in someone who never thought it within them, it's quite remarkable.

Metaphysics runs a course through Mike's poetry, nature herself often allegorically hearalds life's bigger questions.  Poems of Christian spirituality like 'Aquarius' offer a very human delicate touch.  Not surprisingly a keen sense of social justice is also found, with poems such as 'For Remembrance'.  Humour and punny humour at that, can and will be used in evidence against Mike, but we will leave that for the accused, I mean poet to divulge.

Our Guest Musician

Daniel Pye aka 'Yarbo'

Yarbo is a very talented singer songwriter who lists Nick Drake and Bob Dylan amongst his influences. I am reminded of Ryan Adams, both vocally and by the quality of his lyrics. He's clearly a young man who's got something about him. With an emotionally powerful, yet delicate voice, he etches his way through songs of yearning and troubles. Just beautiful music from an original talent.  I would be amazed if Yarbo didn't hit the big time - clearly someone needs to sign this prodigious talent. But don't take my word - judge for yourself...
