Shipwreck survivor

Treading water, grasping flotsam,

Finds, jostled on the rising swell,

A great big ball

Of bubble wrap.

He clings to it. Floats landward.

But salvation and temptation

Often go hand in hand

And he succumbs to mankind's

Strongest urge

And starts to squeeze and snap

The bubbles in the wrap.

Even as he dips beneath the waves

He carries on, curtailing his time,

Pop, pop, pop.

Oh the human condition and our propensity for self destruction... very entertaining though

I sat next to a `whistling` escape door half-way to Greece once. Despite the co-pilots assurance that it was okay, I prayed all the time that I wouldn`t be the first out into `the wide, blue yonder`.

I like the way the four line `stanzas` separated by the one line key words discipline and `tidy` this apparent `free` verser into a `proper` sounding (and reading) poem.

(particularly like that `pop.pop,pop. at the end)

Ta!

I'm always transfixed by the emergency doors on planes. Surely it'll be all right if you open them just a crack to have a peek and let a bit of fresh air in, that's my feeling on the matter.

Excellent, pithy, speaks to the human condition which, in your case, was soggy.

Yeah. Like when they sat me next to the emergency escape door on the plane and told me I was in charge of it. It said pull- all the way to Dublin, it spoke to me 'pull'. But luckily on that day, life was worth living. I love this Miles, it's fun and philosophical and my kids would get it too- good arrows xx
