SHADOWS.

entry picture

Inspired by this pic of my eldest son and my grandson after a busy and lovely day.

SHADOWS.

At end of day as shadows lengthen

Walk hand in hand and love is strengthened

A moment meant for father and son

A tender touch as day is done.

As hand seeks hand and trust is made

Walk into light, don’t let memories fade

That little shadow’s too quick a man

Hold onto the moment for as long as you can.

Shadow small, a shadow boy

Shadow’s tall still shadow joy

Shadow father, shadow son

Shadows fading, childhood’s gone.

Reach for that hand and wrap it tight

You can’t catch those shadows as hard as you try

Don’t waste a moment chasing the past

Live for the present and make it last.

I remember those shadows as we walked

I recall those shadows as we talked

About what you would be when you were grown

Now you have shadows of your own.

Shadow small, a shadow boy

Shadow’s tall still shadow joy

Shadow father, shadow son

Shadows fading, childhood’s gone.

Delightful! This shows how the best comes from
things closest to genuine feeling.
On a point of rhyme - in view of the consistency elsewhere, I would have been tempted to avoid "as hard as you try" and gone
for something like "You can't catch those
shadows soon lost to sight".
But that's just me.

My girls are 25 and 23, Pete.
But when I dream about them they're little again.
Happy days.
