World Leaders.

Your political leanings are so strange to me

You talk of freedom , a fallacy.

Your propaganda, such a vast disgrace.

The third world starves while you never lose face.

You cunningly pass off lies for truth,

You smile at the masses and they listen to you,

World leaders.

Tick the box, make sure you vote for me.

Make your mark, we call it democracy.

You sit behind smoking fat cigars,

You're canvassing the slums in your fancy cars,

Your well-timed acts disguise who you are,

You live in luxury, people bear the scars,

And when you talk about give and take,

You manipulate events solely for your own sake,

World leaders.

Weapons research that tops the pile,

The N.H.S must wait for a while,

The old and sick, they gave their trust,

So keep us armed to the teeth if you must,

You got our vote, we wonder where you are,

Things are just the same, we've not gone very far,

World leaders.

I think it's time to stop and turn around,

I think it's time to stand on firmer ground,

But while you rule our lives so carelessly,

The odds are against the people being free,

Society's future depends on you,

It seems do deadly what you're trying to do,

World leaders.

It's been done plenty of times before but this is very good. The repetition of 'world leaders' at the end of the four main stanzas serves as a kind of rallying call, a challenge, although deep down you know that things won't change.

Favourite line/s:

'Weapons research that tops the pile,

The N.H.S must wait for a while...'

Sentiments grand, but nothing short of revolution will do it. Those people will never get it, too insulated from the lives of those they purport to serve. Where are the statesmen of yesteryear?

I can hear this one live Tony-off the page and onto the stage. Good one, your darts hit home without being aimed individually!

Enjoyed this Tony, an important message here told with a good rythym and I like the way you come back to the phrase 'world leaders.'What a motley crew they are these days. Cheers, Steve

good poem Tony.
What amazes us,is how most people
continue swallowing the same old promises
disguised as new ones.
Overhauling the whole system might be
a better solution.

Love it, Tony, so agree with your sentiments, and what a shambles this government is. Good one.

Trust me, I believe many people, myself included, concur with the sentiments of this poem. This actually sounds like a song. That's quite fun. While this should go down alright in the live circuit, you may want to look for a few specific examples of such influential figures abusing their power or trust, and where they spend obscene amount in areas that are almost hilariously unrelated to the best interests of the people they claim to serve.
