OpenMind: Slamming September

OpenMind: Slamming September:

Following on from our highly attended and jam packed 2 year birthday show OpenMind are back at Fuel on Monday 24th September for OpenMind: Slamming September, our first ever multi-genre OpenSpace slam event. This event will be presided over by GrIm who's taking his first ever crack at presenting an event, so be sure to give him your love, energy and full support.

Many OpenSpacers in the past have impressed us and been offered guest slots as a result of their performances in an informal setting, but OpenMind: Slamming September marks the first time that ALL guest slots (and the headline slot) for an upcoming event are to be decided by the quality of the artists participating in our OpenSpace. So please message Joshua Williams now to reserve yourself a slot for what promises to be our greatest OpenSpace ever and grab yourself a chance of guesting or headlining OpenMind Halloween Special on Monday 22nd October!

Our guests this month chart the evolution of OpenMind whilst paying homage to its roots.

Liverpool's own bohemian poet/singer/songwriter Tom George and the soulful Mancunian musician Tsareena Wimbush have been with us since the early days. Their solo work is great enough but when these two friends take to the stage together the result is an amplification of awesome.

Rory Birch MC was discovered after we launched our featured artist programme on our Facebook page. The mix of well crafted soundscapes and potent lyricism with a strongly Mancunian vibe meant we just had to sign him up for a show.

Nick Alexander's music can be witty, whimsical and self-aware and his love for music and experimentation is clearly felt through every note he plays and every word he sings. Ushiku met Nick at Paradox a few months back and after seeing him play at another of Fuel's fantastic events decided to bite the bullet and asked if we could bring him in for Slamming September, and we're glad he's said yes.

Another standout from our featured artist programme mentioned above is the lovely and extremely talented artist Rebecca Rodoula, and we're pleased to announce that OpenMind: Slamming September will be the home of our first ever art exhibition as she guests alongside Ushiku Crisafulli sharing work that touches on mental health, perception, love and social issues.

Headlining the event is non-other than Hot Vestry returning to OpenMind for their third ever headline slot. This alternative four-piece are a talented bunch that always electrifies the crowd with their unique experimental sound, and the exciting thing is they're still teenagers.
