I believe I'm an atheist

entry picture

This morning, God finally

Put on his hat, and said

'Right - that's it.

If you don't believe in me,

then I don't believe in you

either.

So there.

- and don’t go asking me

for any more favours!'

Bang went the door

and I heard Marlene's dog

bark as he passed the gate

It's all gone quiet

But I'm worried now that

he's not really gone

but doing his 'I can see you,

but you can't see me'

trick again in the next room...

I enjoyed this. Liked the irony of the title and the 'dog' bit - and the quirkiness of it.

Not many people write about God without being overly religious or aggressively cynical so your poem is very original.

I like it too, very wry. So much of 'believing in God' centres around 'favours' and 'punishment'; IMO, extremely short-sighted.

I found this amusing and so typical of how people think then take on board guilt without even earning any - I especially liked your bit about Marlene's dog which reinforced the humour - well done
