Wine, Tears and Consolation

We pour wine to keep us warm

To soak us in a sense

of que sera sera

Balm to soothe the sadness

Glass of ruby calm

To dampen down the fire

To blur the jagged edge

I see tears traversing tracks

On the faces of the fallen

Little beads of anguish

Saturating skin

Moistening and cooling

sore and open wounds

Knowing consolation

is all that I can bring

I try to offer solace, in the hope it may take flight

Grow inside your mind, deliver some relief

I hold you ‘til you cry yourself

to sleep in grief-soaked dawn

And sit with you in silence

for another day and night

My best and oldest friend

How I hate to see your pain

Wish I could annihilate

Obliterate

Eradicate

Or just ease your desolation

But all that I can give you is

Wine and

Tears

And consolation

Really touching, Laura. Some folk seem too good and loving to have to go through such pain. And sometimes it's almost as if it's worse having to stand by helpless and watch them go through it. XXX

I want to echo here Andy's comments - superb performance at G&V - what a professional.

Great poem. Captures those emotions well. Strong lines.

You just know too many languages Francine - the more you know the easier it must be to confuse them - you'll be telling me off in Italian soon and I won't be able to challenge you :)

I got confused... because I am LOST.
Oh là là is right - les mots sont français aussi, mais pas dans cet ordre... : /

Oh la la - how much merlot have you consumed today M'selle? Unless I'm mistaken that's Spanish!

You translate the emotions beautifully, Laura.
I love the use of the saying 'que sera sera' which expresses the things that are out of our control.

I also like these lines:
'To blur the jagged edge'

'Wish I could annihilate
Obliterate
Eradicate'

Lovely work Laura. Great words and imagery. You express so well what we would all do if we only could.
'I try to offer solace, in the hope it might take flight'
