Biting the Bullet

It was never proved

she actually bit the bullet,

but the evidence suggested

she must have put up

with a near Buddhism

amount of fortitude.

The evidence failed to say

Of what actually happened

And whether it had

Been spread out

Across days of endless torture

Or over in a few

Literally bloody minutes.

They tracked her movements

Easily enough at Manchester Royal

Where she visited her

Elderly mother for a few hours

And then carried onto visiting

her deceased father

at Southern Cemetery.

The first blow definitely

Would have broken bone

And the second would

Have left almost anybody

With at least a fractured jaw.

The staff in Oxfam

Remember her spending ages

Looking at several tops

Before suddenly leaving

after taking a call on her mobile

with a look in her face

of sheer terror.

The third blow would have

Broken a shoulder bone

and the fourth would have

burst a eardrum.

The Pawn brokers

provided detailed records

about all three of the rings

she pawned off

and the two gold chains

she wasn’t originally

going to sell off

but changed her mind

last minute.

It was only revealed

much, much later on

the fourth blow was then

followed by a succession of blows

most professional boxers

would have failed to block.

It was un-clear

what she did with shopping

at Morrison’s

and where she went on the 84

although there was a large withdrawal

in Withington Village

about an hour later.

The police only found

one set of handprints

on the murder weapon

but yet contained a trial

of dried blood

over the handle

which made the Police

originally wonder whether

they had a Serial killer

on their hands.

She was seen dropping her

Children off at school

With such emotion

Which made several of the

Other parents

say it almost looked

Like she was kissing

them goodbye forever.

The only thing the Police

Couldn’t work out

Was how she died

After she murdered

Her husband.

thanks Banksy, tone and Francine - the piece went off in a direction i originally i must admit as it was originally going to be two poems (Part I and II) but with some minor edits, it sort of took off in the direction it finished at.. thanks again

The long awaited bullet hits us!

Love the twist at the end Andy - twas most unexpected. Perhaps she was so exhilerated after finishing off her hubbie, she burst a blood vessel with the joy. I like the uncertainty of it all. It reads a bit like a Scarpetta novel... it is such a different take on the theme! x

Very impressive Andy. Well done you! I especially like the "crime report" bits in italics. And it's got a real story to it too.x
