When?

When the house is still
And every little noise
Is a threat; an intruder
Into my silent home

When the night is cold
And I wrap my blanket
Tight about my body
To fight off the chill

When the days are long
And the nights are longer
And my time is wasted
On melancholy thoughts

When I'm lonely
When I need a friend
When it all gets to much to bear
That's when I wish
That you were there

Hi Steven,
Feelings of isolation, mentally as well as physically leap out from this, but I like the short, brief way you've attempted to convey your inner turmoil here!

This has true 'lamentation' mood, which is strongly I-oriented. I wonder if you want 'That you were here' instead of 'there' which, IMO, shatters the personal longing you are expressing.
