Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis

I thought of you today.

In a teashop in Penzance.

There were blue plastic gingham tablecloths.

It was light and airy,

Sitting with a friend

Over coffee.

And then (for there was Classic FM)

I was swept away.

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

And oh, my darling,

You were there

You really were.

The teashop and the gingham disappeared.

Through clean net curtains the street

Seemed to melt.

Traffic silent,

People whispertalking.

And my eyes filled with tears.

Where was I?

I don’t know.

But I know that you were there.

With me.

I agree - this is very touching, Ann. It says so much with only a few words. Love, Lynn xx

Thanks for kind comments. Graham, I see what you mean but the "very nice" was sort of put in as a cliche to show the normality of the situation, and the ref to Classic FM was to explain why the music suddenly appeared.Maybe I could have said that the radio was on, I'll have a think about that! xx

Absolutely charming Ann. I didn't like the "very nice" (waste of words) or the reference to Classic FM but the sentiment shone through.Well done.

The opening and the ending are both so sublime and all the words in between are very nicely put together. I love the emotion and the short lines of this.
