Echoes: ‘a glorious anthology… bursting with delightful poems’ Buy now. Limited stocks.

It's National Haiku Day!

“When is it our day?”

moaned the Odes on National

Haiku day. Standard.

The Sonnets fucked off

in protest at Japanese

art stealing their jobs.

Limericks were smug

in their popularity:

“12th May, cheers Lear!”

“It’s always Haiku,

people think they’re easier”

whinged the Villanelles.

(They’re not wrong, have you

tried writing a villanelle?!

Fuck me, they are HARD).

Five/Seven/Five, now

you have a go. There are rules,

but life’s too short, eh?

[Little note: Observed annually on May 12th, National Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of English artist, illustrator, author, and poet Edward Lear.]
