RELIVING THE RAJ

entry picture

We sat in our garden – that’s Our Gert and me

And took home-made tiffin with cups of black tea;

The sun barely showed – a bright haze at the most

But its heat was pervading and cloying and close;

The breeze did its best to bring cooling chill

But the leaves on the cherries stayed stubbornly still.

A day to enjoy though the prospect might irk

Those who are younger and all out at work.

And so quite replete from imperial nutrition

We surrendered at last and assumed the position;

We set the recliners to their full repose

I pulled down my cap and I started to doze’

It seemed like a minute or two (but no more)

When all of a sudden it’s turned half past four;

Not long to The Chase but just time that we

Take some more tiffin with cups of black tea.

Thank you Uilleam and Graham. My own favourites, Graham, are the aclitteration and astiteration of “cloying and close” and “stayed stubbornly still”.

You should get an award for these two lines alone JC

‘ And so quite replete from imperial nutrition
We surrendered at last and assumed the position’

Classic Coopey!

Ah, those were the days.

Tea – a drink with jam and bread (jam butty, reawnd ‘ere)
Dough – the stuff we buy it with.
😉
