The march of time has done for one good man;

America has opted for a fool,

But once they suffer four years at his school,

They’ll spit out their disgust, because they can.

Societies will dabble with the dark

Until the day the scales fall from their eyes,

When, faced with routine bigotry and lies,

They understand this is no campaign lark.

Then honesty and decency prevail,

As every false connivance is reversed;

Fog’s unappealing blanket is dispersed

And optimism’s odyssey sets sail.

All sane people know that Trump is bat-shit crazy...but that means there must be a hell of a lot of insane people out there who voted him in!
Scary times, Stephen!
p.s. I see his attempt at ending the Ukraine war amounts to tweeting on X, hmmm, not sure that's going to achieve it? Perhaps Facebook....

Thank you Flyntland, Uilleam, Graham and Greg, and thanks to everyone who liked this poem.

I still remain optimistic that in the end people will reject this charlatan and his cronies (as well as the tinpot versions now appearing in Europe), although of course they can, and will, do a lot of damage in the meantime.

Optimism is all we have at the moment!

I hope you're right, Steve. Thank you for this ray of optimism. I can't help feeling gloomy about the future, though.

One thing is for sure. Half of America voted for this moron, having already seen what a total fool he was when in power the first time. To that end half of America deserve what is coming their way. As for Trump, I think he'll spend the next few years looking over his shoulder and so he should!

Thank you Stephen.
These are, I fear dark times, which threaten the future of our loved ones.
We are faced with a stark choice: either we unite with courage against these false prophets who sell us snake oil via their client sewer media, or the most vulnerable in society, who stand to lose the most, will suffer the effects of a rampant totalitarianism which we thought we had defeated during the struggles of the last hundred or so years.

" As every false connivance is reversed"

I am willing you to be right and I envy your optimism but I cannot shake off this feeling of dread. it will take time to reverse the damage that he will undoubtedly do. His decisions will all be based on increasing his hold on power and many people are set to suffer before he is brought to heel. Remember how he separated children from their parents and kept them in a communal cage? he is a monster.
