It’s clever how they’ve set this up:
A bowl of fruit,
A jar,
A china dog,
An iron bar (an iron bar?)
Behind – some crumpled remains,
The stench of rotting heaps
Of defenceless women and men.
Still, no one can see or smell this,
So that’s all right then.
Brilliantly effective 👏
What a duopoly! The inanimate objects thrust into a nightmare scenario. What were you thinking here Stephen? Brutal but effective!

Thank you Graham and Stephen. The idea for this came to me during a surrealist art exhibition, when it struck me that you could put a still life arrangement into almost any situation, horrific or otherwise, and still call it a still life. The iron bar (twice) adds a bit of menace, I suppose.
That's the best I can do. I often find it difficult to explain the content of my poems!
