Farce.

Farce interrupted

by battering ram.

Cutlass thrown

into erstwhile Shangri-la.

Palimpsest burdened

by repetition: eras

erased, yet more

of the same.

Recitals of remorse

caress the ears

of the wilderness

alone.

Casuistry made king,

rather than curing

the paucity of wings...

A fine poem Holden.

Each singular element of the quintet being a gateway to an idea we can dive into as if a welcoming rabbit hole.

The work seems purposely abstract to me, it will mean different things to each reader.

I particularly like the third stanza which reminded me of and set me thinking about the new Gerhard Richter exhibition at Oświęcim.

For me the final stanza is a plea to cut the crap and deal with damage before it's way too late, which it probably is already.

I suspect some people dislike poetry which requires research. Personally I admire that which sets us off on our own revelatory journeys. Words/language are/is elemental, it is the process by which individuals interpret them which gives them definitive meaning...that interpretation can open us up to so many different things.

So thank you.

David.

I can only agree with Stephen A's comment Holden, "you never fail to educate me."
You make me want to read, research and understand, and that I think is commendable. Brilliant stuff.

The juxtaposition of casuistry and paucity is subtle--so fine...
