Cynicism is the last resort of idealism;

Optimism is the balance of realism.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Delusion, the fuel of celebrity
Illusion, a pill easily swallowed
Confusion, the party we all attend

Bemusement, all we have to share
Amusement, playthings of the powerful
Anti-movement, left and right divide us

Stagnation, its always been this way
Castration, no way to create change
Damnation, how it will always be

Purgatory, perpetual insanity
Transitory, hope and love and life condemned
Memento mori, something to look forward to

That's a bit long-winded but in keeping with your other contributions. Innate moral goodness? Find it where you can
and be grateful. But it can often be a self-interested hydra in
human inter-action.

I prefer the Neo-Confucian philosophy, attributed to Wang Yangming, which holds that it is the mind which gives reason to the world; that the mind has an inner light, an innate moral goodness, and that it is the source of understanding of what is “good”.
And I propose that cynicism is, au contraire, the FIRST resort of moral cowards who seek to pour scorn upon the innate moral goodness of others, and upon their optimism.
