ACHING ALL OVER

Memories of the time some years ago when I did yoga.  (Old gits may remember Johnny Kidd and the Pirates' "Shakin' All Over")

Our Leader had not an ounce of fat on her

So found it easy holding Shavasana

She started us with words “Just touch your toes.

Now you can try to hold the Lotus Pose”

But I am just an old crone

I let out a low moan

Tremors down my backbone

Aching All Over

It wasn’t just the Garudasana

Or for the time I held Trikonasana

But trying to nail Baddha Konasana

Caused me to bust my shorts zip fastener

And so to my dismay

Next day my bones would pay

As in agony I lay

Aching All Over

I have decided yoga is not for me

I've decided that it is purgatory

Now these days I get my pain for free

Now I watch the Spurs on my TV

Shivers down my backbone

Tremors in my thigh bone

Arthritis in my neckbone

Aching All Over.

Thankyou, Stephen. Funnily enough, I do have a Dave Clark Five parody about the Salisbury Novichok murders entitled “Vlad All Over”.

Well done, John. For a moment, I thought it would be to the tune of 'Glad All Over by the Dave Clark Five.
Fortunately not!

At my “best”, MC, I could do the strength and suppleness poses but could never do the balance ones.

You mention "the "Plough"
And make me wonder how
I managed it then -
(I couldn't do it now!) 😮

I can imagine you as many things JC, but "a crone" - never!
Some nifty finger-picking comes as an exercise in itself so at least
your mitts are in good shape. I flirted with some yoga stuff back
in the day, managing that position that meant lifting legs back
and touching the floor with the toes behind the head! Crazy
days! 😮

Thanks for the laugh, John! Really enjoyed this poem and accompanying music. My husband and I tried yoga a few years back, didn't stick, now we just take walks. My sister is hugely into yoga, she tried to teach me a bit, but all that getting up and down off the floor did not make me happy. I've been teaching myself simple qigong breath/hand movements (from youtube and an illustrated book) that I enjoy. Plus writing poetry is great exercise for the mind!
