THE MAN IN BLACK - remembering Johnny Cash

I know I'll always think of when

We knew he wouldn't be here again

And how it tore me up inside.

I know I've not heard tougher men

And I heard that awful news and then

I sat there with his songs - and softly sighed.

Johnny Cash - you had to leave us

Johnny Cash - you had to go

Your going was always going to grieve us

Man in Black...we miss you so.

I heard him sing most all my life

Those songs of love and loss and strife

From deep within a hurting heart.

Now he's gone to that Great Above

To join his June and find more love

So I guess he's made a brand new start.

Johnny Cash - you had to leave us

Johnny Cash - you had to go

Your going was always going to grieve us

Man in Black...we miss you so.

Folk will usually stand alone

From those they've never heard or known

Life explains the how and why

But it's for sure we won't forget

That man with clothes as black as jet

The man has gone but his gifts won't die.

Johnny Cash - you had to leave us

Johnny Cash - you had to go

Your going was always going to grieve us

Man in Black...we miss you so.

Thank you for the additional likes. We are approaching the anniversary of Johnny Cash's passing. To borrow the title of
his last big hit, how appropriate it is now:
"Hurt".

Thanks for the "likes" and the comments, gents.
KJ - "One of your better ones"? I'll assume that means it doesn't flutter any feathers. I can live with that.

… I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town
I wear it for the prisoner who is long paid for his crime
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

It hardly seems possible that it's twenty years almost to the
day since Johnny Cash died. Along with "Old Blue Eyes", he
remains a favourite male singer.
