Road to Nowhere?

entry picture

I’m on the road to nowhere

And I ain’t in no hurry to get there

My bag is packed full

With all that I need

I’ve been walking for days

Maybe months

Even years

And I intend to continue

My journey with ease

It’s a dusty old road

Full of damn potholes

But at least

My shoes are well soled

The dust tickles my nose

The damned dust

Keeps making me sneeze!

The road that I travel

Is full of lost souls

All looking for something

To bring them in from the cold

I once met a woman

Who looked just like me!

She told her stories

With tears in her eyes

Don’t think I’m crying

Because I am sad

These tears that I cry

Are pearls of pride

For all that I’ve  done

And all I’ve achieved

It hasn’t been easy

But I never gave up!

So I’m walking this dust ridden road

To nowhere

Cos I’d rather be here

Than over there

I walk with the triers

The lovers

The sinners

I walk in their shoes

Cos I believe

That they are the winners

They are the one’s

Who never gave up

They are the ones

Who continue in hope

They are the one’s who walk

The slippery slope

They are the ones

Trying to get to somewhere

They are the one’s

I admire the most.

They are the ones

Who look just like me

They are the ones

I want as friends

Because when I get where I’m going

When this road comes to an end

We will stand strong together

We will look to our left

We will look to our right

We will smile at each other

And we will know

We are the ones

Who chose to fight!

I love 😍 the allegorical feel of this, Clare. The rhythm is perfectly adapted to story which is about all of us, I think, journeying uncertainly but with hope. Fab! Star turn!

Clare,
Your poetry moves forward in leaps and bounds. This is a particularly good piece of work, brimming with optimism and good humour. Thank you for mentioning pot holes. A favourite gripe of mine.
Well done.
Keith
