May 2023 Collage Poem: The Country of Lost Things

entry picture

Sky diving on the table

Like a swooping peregrine

Kidnapped and held between the jackals

            and vultures at his side

Trying to grow up, I lost my

youth… I left it on the

sun-dappled wall

I watched the tail-lights of

a ghost ship on Godwin Sands

The cacophony of the engagement party

My heart sank like a rock

A single sex toilet stands on the edge

of Goodwin Sands ready to welcome

the ghosts of many wrecks.

The list of death crack goes the neck

12 secs goes so quick

Defenestration

            and Albert’s drop

3 seconds one, the other 12.

On the bus to nowhere, to only then

leave her bag of hope, for lost property

HANG ON – I NEED TO SPEND A PENNY!

Slush puppies dissolving into

the mists of time

Clinging onto the train window trying

to avoid paying for a ticket from

London to Piccadilly, the insect falls

off at Birmingham exhausted and

lands in a coffee

Skydiving while eating a takeaway

Lost for Words

Condemned man whispered
To his close friend
Please make it quick
Don't let me suffer.

The Hangman replied
For old time's sake
Neck cracked and snapped
In less than ten.
