Incident in a Salford park

entry picture

The pinched faced man in a hoody

Was a bully to a young nervous dog.

The dog cried, high pitched. Terrified.

The 'man' pulled him from his feet on a rope,

I could tell: the poor little guy had lost hope.

This pale faced guy looked like a user, spice

I expect. I said "sell me your dog for a twenty;

I'll send him into the bush meat trade". I'll never forget.

I was afraid I'd have to take him. This guy'd have a blade and besides spice'd have sent him crazy.

But he said fine, grabbed the money, ran off, another

Few steps towards his grave.

I called the puppy Woody, he's still with me today, so full of love

And loyalty. I saved him from cruelty. He saved me from myself.

One of your best,John. Concisely chilling and heart warming at the same time.

I agree about the human propensity for cruelty but not totally
with Mark Twain. There are many examples of animals
attacking each other without obvious cause - and many
examples of humans stepping in to save animals from themselves or from some helpless situation that, without
human intervention, would otherwise have tragic consequences.

.Thank you Frederick, Holden, Stephen G, Stephen A & Greg. Much appreciated support.

Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it.

Mark Twain
