I want there to be a God.

I want there to be someone

I can pray to in hard times

And feel the warmth of family.

 

But when I see all this death,

All this doom and destruction

And reach out for some solace,

Who is there to answer me?

 

Religious leaders bang on

And pass round the piled-high plate,

But can they stop the nightmare

And bring back sons and daughters?

 

I know faith will be tested;

It’s the same in any war.

Those whom we turn to fail us.

It was ever thus. Let us pray.
