What is it I see?

entry picture

Father,

what is it I see?

In this place down below

Where rich tides of life

ebb, and then flow

Where beauty & horror

Rub shoulders like friends

And the dominant species

Both destroy, and defend

What is it I see?

When the colours of dawn

Turn, too soon, to darkness

In a gathering storm

Not made from the seasons

But the breath of its patron

Who tread with the righteous

Or, a beast they call Satan

What is it I see?

When such creatures of power

Create such a wonder

To lay waste & devour

To gnaw at themselves

Through the madness of greed

And turn from the bloodshed

Of what they've decreed

What is it I see?

When the flock follow blindly

To the whispers of serpents

Who slither divinely

Into minds, into souls

Into great gaping holes

Where Eden once lay

Now, eroded away

Father

What is it I see?

What is it I see?

"A beast unto itself

"A thing called Humanity"

A truly powerful poem, Stephen, beautifully addresses the paradoxes of the human condition! 🌷

Heartfelt thoughts Stephen, and ones that plague us all at any age, except that the older you get the more you've seen the repetition of the central idea. Is there a saviour? Not rational behaviour at least. How many decisions does anyone ultimately make free of taint or bias ? I'd love to know before I throw in my hand.
