Followed By Cop

When you're followed by a cop
you get nervous
You imagine all kinds of infractions
laws broken that you did not even know of
every time you look up
there he is in the rear-view mirror

Did I miss a stop sign?
did I run a light?
did I hit someone?
why is he staying behind me.
When I turn, he turns
is he following me on purpose?

He is so close
any minute I expect him
to turn on his flashers
should I just pull over and wait for him
or should I make a run for it?
flee across that parking lot
hide in the dumpster

then he suddenly pulls into
a convenience store
and finally leaves me alone

they must have had a Special
          on donuts.

A friend of mine was a football (soccer) referee. He told me that if you refereed a match involving a police team and gave some decisons they did not like, your car was followed all the way home by officers looking for some motoring offence! They never stopped off for donuts, as far as he knew.

As the Bard tells us: "Conscience doth makes cowards of us all".
I chuckled at GS's comment about the doughnuts. A far cry from
my own UK days with the Job when we all seemed "lean and hungry". - perhaps because we spent most of out own service
on foot walking miles during our shifts on the beat. Also, I have
my deep reservations about today's selection process compared
with other days here when many ex-servicemen filled the ranks,
well acquainted in a general and personal sense with the word "discipline".

HaHaHa! Brilliant suspense and final let-down. Most of the cops around here do NOT need to eat any more doughnuts!!!
