Us

Once a few million years ago, in thrones were the giants
Herbivorous, carnivorous with razor sharp teeth
They wore no precious jewels nor clothes of silk
They hunt their fellows for food, oh the roaches seen it all

The world metamorphosed,  puny organisms born
Rid of feathers and  razor sharp teeth- 'harmless' they thought
Even roaches pitied the new guests

Among lions and tigers, they survived for ages
With our minds as weapon, we did it-we survived
But we hunt no more for food but pleasure
Pleasure taken us to paths were humane feeling couldn’t

We have catacombs of trees in rooms- we call them papers
I too have one -oh! What have I done?
I’d say I’m divergent, cut all ties!
But oh, oh my love, absolution a forgotten folk ballad
There’s no ‘I’ and ‘them’ my mind recited
There’s only ‘us’ – and we’ve done it all

In this illuminated room forever had gone by
Since I saw my last star and thirst for waterfalls

Perhaps the roaches would recite our tales when gone,
Perhaps the ravens would pass the tales
And we’ll be known the harmless looking monsters
