regimental banners gathered together
as all those you can't miss 
roosting in the breathing space of a cathedral?
All types of military flags
hang from carven ribs like festive bunting.
Crossing uneven stone centuries
all times of crisis
overhead explosions of colour
camoflage ornate arches
sculpted to inspire.
I believe if Jesus Christ were alive 
in this time of crisis he would dispense 
with these blood-red partisan rags
in much the same fashion 
as he turned the tables
of the money-lenders.
