National Poetry Writing Month 2021

entry picture

NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) is a creative writing project held annually in April in which participants attempt to write a poem each day for one month. It coincides with the National Poetry Month in the United States of America and Canada. Usually it would form part of my Texas Tour, but this year, as with 2020, due to it being cancelled, I did it as a standalone project, using my time and experiences as a community volunteer and looking at what could have been poems about another missed journey. This year I managed 40 as opposed to 41 in 2020

A Poem a day for April 2021

01.04.21 – 1) April the first the day of the fool the day dawns cool

Not like yesterday the sun was out decent weather people gathering together

Photos on facebook showing what seemed to be

No social distancing, no coppers in sight others saying it wasn’t right

They’ll be the first to complain if we’re on lock down again

Enjoyed the sun but didn’t seem to care

For their surroundings leaving their litter there

They’d had their fun in the sun, leaving locals in distress as the mess

Locals with sadness hewn at the sight of the litter strewn

I saw the pictures and thought we may well find

The louts that left it are usually the first to moan about what travellers leave behind

Thankfully it was taken away cleared when community spirit won the day

Still a disgrace, they should never have left it in the first place

2) Facebook and e mails done, away I run

To foodbank one I’m bound, got some parcels to take round

Soon done but the rest doesn’t last, more come in thick and fast

They’re done, then home for tea, wondering what it’ll be

I walk in and my wife’s makin’ some pasta an’ bacon

After tea, time to go and do a stint at foodbank number two

That’s done them something I like, an online open mic

It went well as I did tell and recited away,

Two more poems that are being published in Texas USA

Then a last look on facebook, and find a comment so kind

Really was a gas, praising my story of the Last Supper set in 21st century Cas’

It really gave the gist of the Gospels ending with a twist

That all said, it was time for bed

02.04.21 – 3) April the second morning beckoned

I rose to a cool day dawning and thought what would be happening this morning

If the event 2021 years ago was happening today the airlines buzzing away

Something that happened after dark a disturbance at a local park

A man arrested and taken away, to be tried for sedition and treason later today

Yes it’s Good Friday the day Jesus was tried, sentenced and crucified

So on facebook I’ll my version and tell it’s from the Book of Trev in The Castleford Gospel

Then go live so anyone who wants to can see and hear

Me reciting my poems from NaPoWriMo last year

Then once more to the fore

Food parcel requests written down then again round the town

Do a few then it’s an eye test, things ok then I go and do the rest

Walking through the town I’m wondering how things would have gone down

How would people feel, if the crucifixion was happening in Cas’ for real

How many would have cried at the time he died

Then what would they say when they heard he rose on the third day

Rising in glory would it be the same as in my Castleford Gospel story

03.04.21 – 4) Saturday morning cool again at least there’s no rain

I’m up dressed so me an’ Milo huddle, on the settee for our morning cuddle

But soon no time to lurk, shopping, breakfast then admin work

Then to the food bank some bags to fill

I'm wondering about all the cars parked on Queen Park Hill

Then, I remembered organised sports are back,

And the road out of lockdown for now on track

Looked and saw two football teams playing with all their heart

I just hope the spectators stay 2 metres apart

Parcels packed ready to take out so people don’t go without

Never know when they’ll be needed,

Stored in my garage so calls for help can be heeded

Two requests had come in so they were done, then home for lunch I run

Now what about the afternoon well let’s see

There’s Talking Zebra’s online open mic before tea

5) Once more time at Talking Zebras to do my rhyme

Others gave their views I told them the news

Three more anthologies two for festivals in the USA one for Charity in the UK

Seem to be doing well of late that now brings my total since lockdown to eight

We started the read round and I elected to read from the poems that had been selected

How I felt really proud, but sad not to be over there reading them aloud

Then we went round some more, some left others did another score

All went well, I could see then, it was time for tea

04.04.21 - 6) Sun shining it’s Easter Day

I’m thinking of two women making their way

To where Jesus lay as yet unaware that he’d risen on the third day

What they saw and more, the two with sadness wrought, lost in thought

The stranger they met on the way to a local inn and invited him within

It’s written down as I supposed it would happen in my home town

Then I put it on facebook my version of Jesus rising

From the Castleford Gospel, to some it’s hardly surprising

A modern story about Jesus Christ rising in Glory

7) Well it was church, Sunday dinner then I was found Baildon bound

What was I going there for? To practice for a proposed Poetry on The Moor

The intend to make it a regular event so the job for me Nicky and Rob

Go and have some fun do and film a vocal test run

Great idea to get over there out in the fresh air

What we weren’t knowing was how strong the wind was blowing

Hard work trying to regale poetry when the wind seems like a gale

And the notion the pics taken would be good for promotion

Then back to Nicky’s we run, for a hot drink and editing to be done

Then I have to be away but can’t wait for the day

And how good it’ll feel when we’re out there doing it for real

8) Home from Nicky’s home for tea, not much on tv

Check facebook my e mails and see something that appeals to me

An event I like, the Awenites monthly open mic

Time zone spot on, soon the site I was on

I recited away, thinking, the perfect end to the day

05.04.21 – 9) Easter Monday still part of bank Holiday

I wake look out of the window no sign of the predicted snow

I’m thinkin’ just cos’ it ain’t there it will be somewhere

Soon I’m dressed then Milo and me have our usual snuggle on the settee

He nods of straight away and I soon drift away

An hour and a half has past then we get up at last

Breakfast done away I run some food parcels to get done

Then back and some more to pack

So requests can soon be heeded they can go where they are needed

It was just as well cos’ a message did tell two more were needed as well

Then three to where, there were requests for toys and baby wear

The afternoon went okay but I missed what Johnson had to say

Once more laying it down how things were going on the road out of lock down

No worries I could catch up with it and others views all the news

10) Well I was sat eating my tea in front of the tv

Ready to catch up on what Johnson had to say about April 12 the day

When shops and other establishments would in the main open again

Gyms and pools as long as people don’t behave like fools

But no such luck when piece of meat got stuck and refused to shift

Various treatments tried it didn’t want to move, all I could do was vomit and rift

111 said go to your local A & E I did they checked my details

Asked what I tried I told them and it had been in vain

But they didn’t have the facilities there and I may have to try elsewhere

So suggested I try the same remedy again, I did but it was still in vain

No luck it was well and truly stuck

06.04.21 -11) So their suggestion I heeded knowing other treatment may be needed

I’d arrived at another A & E there to see what could be done

Nothing seemed to be going right, the pain getting worse I would be there for the night

The doctor said you can’t go home in that state

Still with discomfort the treatment was given a bed was found

And in later in the day for an endoscopy I would be bound

Staff coming in at various times of the day to see if I was okay

And one did regale what the treatment did entail

No shivers down my spine I thought get it done and things’ll be fine

But more time with discomfort and trying to relax was spent

Then the porter came with the wheel chair and away I went

Told to lie steady while things were got ready

Not at all scared as things were prepared

Op was carried out to the letter soon I was feeling better

Then back relaxing watching the sky turn from blue to grey

Then without fail, as excepted some snow and hail

Settled but didn’t stay, the sun came back out and it melted away

Then a call for help saw all act as one, each knowing their place and what had to be done

Dedication once more coming to the fore acting fast, professional to the last

Then came a meal and be able to feel and tell it had gone down well

Then time for home and walking out well my time there done

Showed my gratitude to the staff trying to say thank you to each and every one.

Then away I went, thinking “yes they are worth well more than a measly 1%”

07.04.21 – 12) This morning on the settee we lay

Me and Milo I really missed him yesterday

A dining mishap caused me to be elsewhere receiving very good care

From a service that takes some beating now I’ll take more care with what I’m eating

So a simple breakfast, porridge with cream, wonderful it went down a dream

Then on facebook replies to a post I sent out last night

Friends saying they were glad I was alright

When they read about the poetry chap and his little food mishap

And the friends poem about how we should bless our second to non NHS

A poem that did exude public gratitude and eventually would be recited on tv

No one could refute such a wonderful tribute

Then it was time to heed the fact that there are still those in need

So to the unit, head get the food parcels out so the hungry can be fed.

And hope that they don’t have the same scare and remember to eat with care

08.04 .21 – 13) I rise to face the day, outside it looks cold and grey

One thing pleasing, my post op discomfort is easing

So I think in the main, it’s porridge with cream again

Messages and e mails to be checked so the internet I’m on

Remembering last night a zoom open mic a poem in praise of our NHS second to none

And the surprise when they were only offered a one percent pay rise

And as the viewers listened to my score they also thought they deserved much more

14) Computer work done it’s the food parcel run,

Two regulars today and two who weren’t in yesterday

Then while I’m out a regular I forgot about

More come in another five it’s turning out to be quite a drive

Last one’s done, home I run, a brief respite and another food bank tonight

That done, an event I like, an open mic

Again on line, for now ok but still I yearn for the live face to face events to return

09.04.21 – 15)  Another day looking cold and grey, April 12 three days away

Then we’ll know if we can go on holiday

Not to another nation but at home called staycation

And where families chose to remain, for the holiday they must self contain

Not for me I’m going to wait a while longer, till things are a bit stronger

But I’ll not be shifting till there’s been some more lifting

And I can go well beyond this Sceptred Isle flying many a mile

For another roam, in Texas my spiritual home

16) Our daughter came in to say Prince Phillip had passed away

I thought my God now there’ll be a load of crap

About whether he was a good or nasty chap

We’ll hear and see a lot about him on radio and tv

Some will moan some will groan thinking so drear, that’s all we’ll hear

But no one has my arm up my back nor do I have to run with the pack

So you’ll most likely if I’m not volunteering find me

Either composing or relaxing listening to music on my mp 3

10.04.21 – 17) Day dawned snow coming down, nice and white

A change from the rain last night

Me an Milo have our usual morning time together

Going to the shops I hear a guu say “paper’s late today”,

Another replies "aye its wi’ yon silly bugger passing away"

I nearly quipped “Oh is that why, what an inconvenient time for him to die”

With the country in a state, there’s more to worry about than the papers being late

Doesn’t bother me I have my own views

Not what I ‘m supposed to have according to the news

So when the media says “We” I always think “except for me”

11.04.21 – 18) This morning the sun was shining the sky was blue

Tomorrow starts the road out of lockdown stage 2

I wait with great anticipation to see how this affects the nation

Will some stick to the rules or will there be the usual gang of fools

Some will say how nice to have a holiday

Others how nice to go and choose a new clothes and shoes

Strange how they were forced to close

People were expected to round barefoot and naked I suppose

While others think how nice to go to the pub for a drink

Outdoor attractions, leisure facilities, something for all abilities

I just hope some fools don’t abuse it and once again we lose it

As for me I carry on as before, taking food parcels to the needy’s door

Cos’ I’m longing for the day I can go beyond

The UK to Texas, my spiritual home across the pond

12.04.21 - 19) Nice to see the car park getting full after a long lull

Nice to see the market coming fully to life after all the strife

Nice to see life coming back to Castleford town on the road out of lockdown

20) Last night at an open mic I spoke of what should have been

If not for Covid-19

They got to know it would have been my 11th poetry tour of Texas in a row

Where I was out and about, what I used to write about

Recording my time in rhyme, where I’d been what, I’d seen

What I done come rain or sun

The audiences I’d delighted where I had recited

And where, I would be reciting that night if I was over there

Kick Butt in Austin the great place for coffee poetry and booze

And what’s more it’s poetry in the raw, no holds barred, hit ‘em hard

Deliver your score and leave ‘em wanting more

But it was not to be so I read a poem about what happened when watching tv

Something I swallowed and the events that followed

Of which I said “Bless out second to none NHS”

And with good intent said they were worth a better pay rise than one percent

13.01.21 – 21) Today hectic at times, no time to think about rhymes

Or what to say for my poem a day

Cos’ I’m delivering food parcels showing people are caring

Since yesterday the roads are busy, an’ some drivers are getting me swearing

Then I complete the run and morning is done

Home for lunch, nothing to take out and some of the stuff has run out

There’ll be a delay in getting more out today

Hope clients aren’t to blue when tomorrow will have to do

But if they’re really in need, we can get the basics to them with all speed

So take my wife to do a shop so we’re not caught on the hop

Then the stuff we’re lacking comes in and I’m soon packing

It’s done and car stowed, ready for tomorrow when once more I hit the road

One of many allaying fears, one of the many unsung heroes, the volunteers.

That can stand tall and I’ve done today’s poem after all

14.04.21 – 22) Early morning shopping how nice to see,

Things getting back to how they used to be

More people about but the market stalls are bare, no need for dismay

It’s Wednesday and it’s not a market day

And after lockdown strife it’s good to see the town centre coming back to life

But no time to lurk, it’s breakfast then on with my voluntary work

First the regulars so they’re not missed then a few more are added to the list

They’re done; time for lunch, then in comes another bunch

Work steady away then I’m done for the day

Paperwork to do, then look on facebook see what others have been up to

A friend says they can stuff NaPoWriMo he’s had enough

Not only him that’s blue, others are bored too

Some said it was because, they thought the prompts were dross

A bit narked cos’ their imagination was not sparked

For me it was online events, I said one thing’s clear,

You don’t get the same banter and atmosphere

Nor do I get inspired and write with determined intent that I do at a live event

But for some it’s been fine, a poetry lifeline

But despite expectations, it does have limitations

There was a regular online event that night

I thought about joining but didn’t cos’ in the main

I’d still rather have face to face live events back again

So instead of listening to poetry being read,

I’m gonna compose and listen to music instead

15.04.21 – 23) I rise shower, dress for another day NaPoWriMo project halfway

We all know there’s 15 days to go

Last night on facebook posts showing some were finding it hard going

Nick had a thought and said “do something short”

Leading by example he sent a sample, not to be outdone I sent another one

A poetic comment and Joe said “Well I never a rare moment of free verse from Trevor”

Shopping done once more, over breakfast plan my next poetry score

It comes easy if you take the time to think in rhyme

But no time to lurk, time to get to work a short trip to make a food parcel to take

Followed by one more it all adds to this poetry score

Then back, to the unit to pack, calls to make as to where to take

Then I’m away to brighten someone’s day and see their spirits lift with

On my run I see people having fun in the park in the sun,

A sight to gladden the heart, and they all seemed to be 2 meters apart

One again I’m done, I think I’ve earned time to take a coffee break

Then next comes a text, another needed I’ve one in the boot so the text is heeded

It was worthwhile when the recipient said thank you and gave me a smile

Back to the unit work nice and steady get some more ready

One for someone I’m waiting for him to call if he doesn’t he’ll get nothing at all

Cos’ last week it was a sin I called and he wasn’t in

And I got a bit vexed when he didn’t answer my text

So I thought, the ball is now in his court, if he calls his call I’ll heed and satisfy his need

Plus another three then it’s home for lunch

Then end this rhyme and have some me time

Nick is Nick Brown: Writer, musician and stand up comedian

Joe is Joe Williams: Formerly a starving musician now a starving poet

16.04.21 - 24) Break of day weekend a day away, tomorrow family taking a holiday

I don’t mind being left behind, can find plenty to do, so I’ll not be blue

Despite getting up and not seeing our little pup

Maybe have a lay in, but not stay in, bed too long

More time to do my rhyme, a poem a day so it’s not all work and no play

But without doubt there’ll still be food parcels to get out

No I’ll not be blue, I’ll find something to do

I just hope my family has a good time too

17.04.21 – 25) Well today’s the day my family begin their break away

Making the most of a week at the coast

At a seaside town following the rules of coming out of lockdown

Self catering at its best and time for a good rest

Now I’ve to be away for the first part of the day

No time for slacking food parcels to be packing

Get them delivered not a moment too soon

Cos’ I’ve got an online open mic this afternoon

They’re ok but I still yearn for live performances to return

26) The open mic starts at quarter past two, so what I’ll do

Nip to the market and look for something easy to cook

Cos’ while my family’s on their roam I’m self catering at home

I was back well within the hour with a nice size cauliflower

Then the open mic begun

But a quick moment to watch my family drive away in the afternoon sun

Hoping they have a great time, then concentrate on my rhyme

A recent tale I did regale about something which led to an overnight stay in a hospital bed

Others recited away all with something different to say

Then for a moment we were still in respect to the memory of Prince Phil

I leave after the second round

Hoping to receive a text saying my family’s arrived safe and sound

18.04.21 – 27) Alarm rings in bed I’m layin’ family away so I decide I’m stayin’

A while longer the lure of the pillow much stronger

Nothing as to get up for so decided to snooze a bit more

Phone call last night I found family had got to the coast safe and sound

Can take my ease, only myself to please

Then it’s time to rise, shower dress, breakfast

Then away an’ I’ve done my poem for today

19.04.21 – 28) Alarm rings once again the call of the pillow the stronger

So I stay in bed a bit longer

Once more thinking of what should have been but stopped by covid 19

Once again I’d have been heading West to Lamesa for the annual Earth Day Fest

Again leaving the motel car park while it was still dark

Setting off before sun-up to help with the run-up

Coffee in my thermal cup in case I need perking up

Watching the range of scenery change as one again I cross The Panhandle Plain

Stopping wherever I feel for a meal or simply a bread from behind the wheel

Eventually I rise from my bed once again to face the day ahead

Food parcels to deliver, don’t know yet how many but long for the day there won’t be any

And all my hoping is not in vain and I’m driving over The Panhandle Plain again

20.04.21 – 29) Another day in the sun more work to be done

Bin emptied earlier than expected,

Breakfast, e mails and facebook broadcast my daily score

Then away to see what the day has in store

Look at the list to make sure no one’s missed

Ring, leave message or text so they don’t get vexed

And thought, “The ball is now in their court”

So the deliveries start once again the food bank team playing its part

Ring tone singing as the guy kept on ringing

I didn’t answer much to his dismay I was on the motorway

But let him know, I was on my way when it was safe to do so

Poor chap seemed to be in a bit of a flap I’ll bet

Don’t know why, we’ve never let him down yet

Then lunch and in comes another bunch

They're done, then its back to the unit pack another four

For tomorrow and I’m good to go once more

21.04.21 – 30) Food parcels ready I have four, 3 already spoken for

Get them out and pack some more

Ring two regulars but there not there, they ring later and tell me they’re elsewhere

A bit un-nerving but there’s others more deserving

So if they get back late it’s a matter of wait

Then more come in, away I run and get them done at a steady pace it’s not a race

Last one done for the day then a call comes in to say, they’re making their way

Back to Castleford but it’s gone five, and I say I’m done for the day

I said tomorrow they said okay

I told them what time and now I’m ending this rhyme

22.04.21 – 31) How nice to get out

If only for a short while

How nice to get out

32) Thought I’d start with a haiku, about getting out for a short while

Thought I’d start with a haiku it might make someone smile

Then it’s time to check the food parcel list hopefully nobody will get missed

First two done straight away they should have been in yesterday

Their designated day so were told in the main, don’t let it happen again

Cos without doubt they may end up going without

Second two done, they’re in it’s their designated day then I’m away

To pack some more see what the day has in store

Get them delivered, not forgetting a dental appointment at quarter to four

Home for lunch, things are going fine, washing finished so it’s put on the line

More requests come more parcels go out too then I find there’s only two left to do

To them I’m bound but what I found was a shock an emergency services road block,

The detour I find puts me behind

Manage to do one but may leave the other while tomorrow hopefully no to much sorrow

Dental appointment complete but I need to book another one to have a filling done

But no time to lurk got to crack on with some housework

Get things tidied away for when my family get back from their holiday

Then an event I like a proper outdoor open mic, then I think I may

Drop the parcel off on the way

I said I’d collect Yvonne in Hunslet it was done,

And I thought now to Bowling Park Bradford for some outdoor poetry fun

23.04.21 – 33) I wake thinking it was a delight last night

Meeting in person there were only four we’d chat and share a poetry score

In the evening sun we were seen live not behind a computer screen

How nice in the evening sun to sit and talk one to one

A good time we had, two from Bradford, one from Leeds and a Cas’ lad

Soon I’m ready, morning tasks are done and to the unit I run

To pack and get the deliveries back on track

Then home for lunch a text from a local clinic and I’m delighted to be invited

To book for my second vaccination so on the computer without hesitation

But access to the site is denied, so give the clinic a call

Explain what was happening and that was all

They told me what dates were free and booked it there and then for me

Then away but a nice surprise

My family arrive after a morning drive; we smile so I stop a while

Had a good time in the main but glad to be home again

I’m glad to see Milo as he comes to me

Them I’m away to carry on with the day

Getting some more parcels out so folk don’t go without

There’s only four more so I’m away soon to be done for the day

Do three last one not in, no worries all will be well

I’ll drop it off in the morning cos’ I’ve one ready packed to go out then as well

So then it was time to be, home with my family, home for tea

24.04.21 – 34) Break of day I check on Milo see if he’s okay

He is, then on the settee we’re lying, Milo goes back to sleep without trying

Later he wakes, for me to the shops I head for some milk and bread

Two parcels to go out, there done and I’m thinking about today’s score

Then a text comes in can I do two more

I go to the unit to pack someone sees me and asks can I make it three

So I agree I check they’re all in so it’s a win, win

Then it’s home for lunch and soon this afternoon

I’ll be on facebook live doing rhymes about my Fire Brigade times

About the times things went wrong, one of them was even made into a song

People listening thought they were very good

Especially those about getting the fire engine stuck in the mud

And when I wrote about someone’s gaffe,

It was like karma and others having the last laugh

Then I look on facebook and see there’s an event live I look but it’s not for me,

I’d rather be, at a live event but I come away and concentrate on my poem for today

25.04.21 – 35) Early morning, it’s Sunday, later I’ll go pack some parcels for Monday

But the call of the settee was stronger so me and Milo snoozed a while longer

Some ironing to be done, not much at least it’ll prove I haven’t lost my touch

After dinner to the unit I go pulling up I see,

The baby bank crew outside, they haven’t got a key

Not to worry it’s fine, I let them in using mine

They let me know there’s some baby packs to go, could I take them tomorrow

To do the local ones I agree so they give me three

I think I can do them when I’ve done my first slot and that’s when

I think it may be better to do them there and then

It becomes clear it’s a better idea, a short roam then back home

They’re done and I’m away wondering about the rest of the day

Paperwork done, I open an e mail which goes on to say

Boundless anthology launch in The Valley tonight, they sent me an invite

Which was kind but they’re six hours behind

It would make my family really blue, me reciting in the morning at two

No matter how good the intent, I still prefer the live event

My joy would know now ends If I could be over there with my Valley friends

But for now I’m stuck here but one thing’s clear

Come what my I’m determined to get back over there one day

26.04.21 – 36) I rise, morning slowly abating downstairs Milo’s awake and waiting

Soon we huddle, on the settee for our morning cuddle

One thing for sure I really miss ‘em when I’m on tour

But there wasn’t one on 2020 and so far not in 2021

Much to my dismay Covid still with us today

We snuggle for over an hour, he stirs then he’s up and away

Time for me to rise and start my day, remembering vaccination number two is due

Shopping to do, breakfast too, then have a look at my e mails and go live on facebook

Then I’m away to start my run for today, first the three parcels I packed yesterday

They’re done then comes one more making it four

It’s done and I’m heading to Pontefract with clothes and bedding

Then two more home for lunch then away to a centre cos’ it’s second vaccination day

Short wait then it’s done but there’s still another one, I hope they remember

To call me for the booster in September

Then I can hopefully plan to go away, once more to Texas USA

Poetry festivals or not I’ll be off like a shot

But for now of requests there’s no lack, they’re coming in quicker than I can pack

A total of seven so time spent packing and delivering I was surprised how fast it went

All done and home I run, find a place add them the database

On the list was seen I’d done a total of fifteen

A real busy bee, but now, some time for me

27.04.21 – 37) I wake stretch muscle feels a bit tight on the jab site

Other than that I’m okay so it’s nothing to dwell upon, it’ll wear off as the day goes on

Food parcels to go out not that many only a few if any

They're done and I’m away to compose my poem for today

I start but soon I’m flagging, inspiration lagging

But no need for sorrow I’ll finish this one now, and start again tomorrow

28.04.21 – 38) Three days to go for NaPoWriMo

Yes it’s getting hard for this Yorkshire Bard

But while I’m out today I’ll hope inspiration comes my way

Of parcels only a few not much to do

Take my car to the garage the tyres keep going down,

It doesn’t take long to find out what’s wrong

Wheel rims corroded, new ones to seek the garage will have them for early next week

A temporary repair and it’s ready, just a matter of taking things steady

A few more parcels and I’m away, then that’s it, I’m done for the day

29.04.21 – 39) I was on my first American Tour having breakfast in Baltimore

At the Broadway Market Hall the last of four that had been, outside cop cars were seen

It seemed the place to be, I thought if it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me

And what was seen on the tv screen

William and Kate leaving Westminster Abbey, the deed done

Went in as two and came out as one

Leaving the wedding venue I think “good for them now where’s the breakfast menu?”

After breakfast I tarry a while longer,

Some final photos but soon the call of the road was stronger

Took my time no need to rush and so enjoyed the tranquillity and hush

Beauty, fauna and flora of Susquehanna State Park then to Allentown before dark

Thinking tomorrow I’ll be in New York for my first American tour Stage 3

30.04.21 – 40)

Today’s the last day for April’s poem a day

I’m thinking back to 10 years ago today

My final drive in a car that had taken me far, the places I’d been and seen

For the first time and captured moments in rhyme

When inspiration ran out there was nothing to worry about

Come what may I just enjoyed my time away

I’d had a ball covering 4,700 miles in all

And there was still more to come, things to see, places to be

Respects to pay, the following day

To all the souls now in heaven who perished as a result of 9/11

My Firefighter Brothers and others

And hopefully next year many of my April poems a day

Will be composed and written in Texas USA
