And finally...

I saw it on the news today;
they found my body.
I was wondering where I'd left it.
Two days it had been there,
all alone and fly blown.
In its death it served new life,
a multitude of little breaths.
I rather like the irony in that.

Two days is a lifetime for some,
the end of a lifetime for me.
Ignoble in the extreme,
to have all those people
looking at my death mask,
my final gift to the world.
Roll up, roll up; come see the show.
From unknown to newsworthy.

They say that they knew
that I was having problems.
They say that nothing is that bad.
They say a lot now it's over,
and I find that very sad.
They didn't say anything
Two days before; didn't want to offend.
Funny how two days can change everything.

Excellent, Stephen. All the prior comment express it all - the idea is novel and beautifully worded. I liked the 'understanding' underlying 'didn't want to offend', currently a PC restriction we all find hard to bypass for more sympathetic human contact.

This is very good. You had me caught by the third line, so very powerful. You've got a great sense of tension and I love how you vary your sentences for the best of effects. The short ones really hit home and the long ones are heart-wrenching. This is so very well put together. There's nothing I'd suggest changing; my favourite read of the day.

This is such a sad poem but the saddest thing is that it actually can be a stark reality of the finality of someones.life....

"They say that nothing is that bad.
They say alot now it's over,
and I find that very sad.
They didnt say anything
two days before.."...nearly broke me in two! I was deeply moved by this piece..so poignantly you have expressed the distance between humans and how the bridges are sometimes hastily put up much too late...

This is very sad, moving too in a very real and melancholy way.

Strong piece Steven and just the right length. Wonderful irony and the thought of a multitude of little breaths is eye-catching.
