Never Enough

Never Enough

There is no ultimate height to be reached

No passion that can be fully satiated

We fly high once in a while then plunge

Down to the nest from which we flew

Satisfaction is a mediocre expression

It barely describes ambition least of all desire

Our arduous searching becomes circular

Round and round we go chasing our own tails

We seek sublime happenings in ever present hope

Impatiently we aspire only to finally expire

In this transitory and finite existence we are caught

Within limits and boundaries set in place

Drugs, alcohol seduce us to ultimate pleasures

But short lived and far from heaven

Many become frustrated and disappointed

This is part of the grand design

To allure and encourage but never enough

never

Our ever present lack of satisfaction so well described. Better and better!

Rose, Stephen A., Aviva and Holden,

Thank you for your comments and likes. They are much appreciated. Aviva your comment gave rise to some thought. Perhaps people want more as a form of anxiety, to acquire more is, in some strange way, a means of establishing more of oneself. I would agree, from personal experience, that when one has enough there is a good outcome in the form of being less selfish and more giving.

Thank you again,
Keith

A great poem, thanks for sharing it.

That feeling of never enough is indeed an innate characteristic of our psyche because we need ongoing purpose, though whether that is societal or beyond that I am not certain, The more we can release the sense of not enough from mundane needs the higher purpose we can end up pursuing, or put more understandably once we have decided we have enough for ourselves we usually begin wanting things for others rather than not wanting anything else at all.

Good morning Keith, hope today finds you in good health.

I absolutely love your poem.

Every excellent line brimming with truth. When oh when will all the good people of this world stand up collectively and be counted?

Watch this space I say, optimistically.

Thank you sir!
