Sophie Scholl (White Rose)

entry picture

An evil regime, they set out to oppose.
Munich students called the White Rose.
Their aim to stop Hitler's war machine.
Young Sophie Scholl, part of that team.

Passive in their actions and their views
Leaflets to write, a right path to choose.
In danger with every word they spread.
But courageously, a resistance they led.

Eventually captured, 3 people, so brave.
Their only wish, countless lives to save.
The mock trial resulted in Fallbeil to face.
Forever in history, they have their place.

From German skies, their final leaflet fell.
A message of peaceful resistance to tell.
Millions dropped by allied forces in 1943.
The White Rose got through, for all to see.

(executed this day in 1943 aged just 21)

I recall a film about this woman and the movement of which she was
a part. Courageous in her commitment to the end, even impressing
her German interrogator who, it seemed, would have seen her avoid
the guillotine if possible.
