Down But Not Out

I have rebuilt myself before
Because life often pulls me down.
I get gradually unhinged
I end up scattered on the ground.

I have rebuilt myself before
Well enough to carry on
Only to find
   Never firm against everything.
   Never resilient as I'd need,
But life has taught me many things,

So rather than be afraid
That this world might leave me battered,
Or this world might leave me shattered,
Because it probably will

I might not yet have me perfect,
I might get kicked to the kerb, but
If so, I will rebuild myself again
And better still.

Thank you for commenting Jason, and that is such a beautiful and meaningful analogy, I will remember it.

All the cracks and scars are just life writing it's words on us, just like the blank sheet of paper that only becomes a classic when the pen digs in across its virgin face. Never fear the pen, never fear the ink, it's what we're here for.

Thank you Brian for commenting. And, when I think about it this poem has kind of a broken scheme or perhaps a rebuilding one, it varies but has hints of previous rhymes and relaxes on imperfect rhymes frequently, all of which is quite apt for the theme. I can't claim to have done it deliberately but seems like my inner poetic voice knew what it was up to this time. ?

A defiant cry to get back up after a fall. I like your writing scheme - loose but tight enough to enhance your expression. Well done!?
