Write Out Loud board member Julia Clark, headteacher of Lily Lane primary primary school in Moston, Manchester, and the school’s poet-in-residence Louise Fazackerley will be taking part in an online event to celebrate International Mother Language Day on Wednesday 20 January.

This event is organised jointly by Manchester Children’s Book Festival and the Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University, and is in collaboration with the Stanley Grove Primary Academy ‘Building the Bridge’ project.

Exercises for the online Multi-Language Mushaira can be used in a classroom, or for online learning at home, allowing families to get involved, especially where English is not the first language at home. Louise and Julia will be explaining how they used Emma Martin’s and Stanley Grove’s primary resources and support to hold their first mushaira at Lily Lane.

There will be resources, poetry, worksheets and video links designed to combine creativity with language on the theme of Friendship. If you want to know more about this event email k.tew@mmu.ac.uk, director of the Manchester Children’s Book Festival.
