Two New Competitions!

The First Malton Literature Festival has launched two new competitions and they’re looking for poems and short stories from both adults and children.

The Malton Literature Festival Open Creative Writing Competition has two categories – Poetry and Short Story, each category with a 1st prize of £100, a 2nd of £50, and 3rd of £25. Poems can be up to a maximum of 40 lines, and short stories to a maximum of 2000 words, and it costs £4 to enter each poem or short story.

The Malton Literature Festival Young Writers’ Competition is open to children about to enter school years 7-11 in September 2010. Poetry should be a maximum of 30 lines, and short stories a maximum of 1000 words, and vouchers will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in each category. Entry to the Young Writers’ Competition is free and contestants are allowed up to three entries each.

The judge for both competitions is WOL poet Andy Humphrey. The deadline for both is Sunday, 22nd August, 2010, and winners will be invited to read their winning work at a Prize giving on Sunday, 24th October as part of the Malton Literature Festival.
