Early learning, clear my plate and I’m a winner

“You’ve got to look smart to visit Nana and Grandad”

Ahh, so wearing my pyjamas all day then is bad?

 

“Pay attention in class, stop sitting there daydreaming”

How can imagination be wrong, my inner voice is screaming

“Your painting looks absolutely nothing like that bowl of fruit”

So, creating my art the way you want it then must be astute

 

“you’ll fail in life if you don’t get the top grades in the exam”

That’s it, I’ll stay awake 24/7 in my diligent efforts to cram

Leavers assembly, “thanks for coming and good luck to you all”

My future in the big wide world making me feel kind of small

 

“your job to make the tea, observing while you learn the ropes”

As I enter the publishing company, full of dreams and hopes

“Pay attention now, you’re daydreaming, we can’t have that”

Okay, so no composing a poem in my head, about a ginger cat

 

“You are kind of cute, but you talk to posh for me to date you”

Is enunciating nicely less attractive? This just does not seem true

“I like your car, your suit; how much did you say you earn?”

She is beautiful, we are together for a while, when will I learn?

 

“You can’t walk away from your career, have you gone mad?!”

But I have had it, you see. I feel unfulfilled and sad

“What will you live off and where will you go from here?”

I need time-out, then my future will become clear

A decision already made; I feel no need to react

From now on I shall show the face I had before my life began

Reflecting my inner self, my own dreams and who I truly am
