The blues cafe

I want to be jolly

Really, I do

I want to be kind

To be benevolent and welcoming

To all of my fellow creatures

Right here right now

Amongst the cheese plant wallpaper

And salsa saxophone jazz

The rustic sanded wood tables

On wrought iron stands

The cushioned benches and distressed chairs

The sound the smell of coffee in polite little cups

That on any other day would be a delight

I want to be lively even though I am cold

But today I am assaulted by the black dog

Of simply feeling naff

Colluding clouds have covered the sun

That sun which had earlier dazzled my eyes

From the rain- soaked road

I look for a way out of this malaise

But I am not sure I can be bothered

All I can do is to write Write, WRITE and write

Exhale and write some more

Until there is no more left to write

Until I am blank and beige and I am all wrung out

Then rise straighten up pay the bill

Walk away and start the day again

Martin,

This poem is a gem indeed, realistically descriptive and filled with a sad emotion of malaise. A good read. I enjoyed this as I can partly relate to it especially in these depressing times.

Thank you for this
